Week 5 of BSLC...
Another 5 more weeks to go before i get my corporal stripes..
Lots of things have happen this week..At the very start of tis week, we got our live firing for SAR-21 and SAW...finally we get to fire these cool weapons. Of course it is fun at the same time tiring, coz we start very early and end very late...A lot of detailing and lots of ppl firing..There is the day and night shooting and we waited very long for the night to come before proceeding with the firing. Then until night le, when we going to start firing, we saw fumes of smokes at the back of the firing range...we thought is some haze of just a normal smoke...but the smoke is reddish orange in colour and we can see at the background after that..it is like a silhouette behind the range, then at this time our warrant officer saw it and he quickly took a rover and drive to the back of the range to find out wad is happening..
To his horror, he saw wad we call a forest fire, 1 of the trees is burning due to the burning down of bee hive by the pest control. Then the tree that house the hive caught fire...the whole tree is burning! Next we call the fire department..they took ard 45 mins then come lor and it is like so long.thye might as well dun come at all. The fire soon spread to other trees and the wind is also quite strong. Now 2 trees are burning and the continuous of the trees cause greater haze to the air. When they reached, they send a fire engine to the scene and they thought they can surpress the fire istead it is vice-versa. Then after 15 mins then send another fire engine to assit in the fire fighting but still the same, because they do not have the water they needed much to cool the trees down and forest fire spreads rapidly.
After another 20 mins, 1 more fire engine and 1 more vehicle like the one that contains fuel, the long long one..ya they send one of that to the scene it contains water of course..Now there are 3 fire engines and 1 water tank. Soon 2 police car arrive at the scene too. From the road we can see the raging fire on the trees and it is real scary..like those u see on tv. For ard 1 hour the fire seems unstoppable. Our firing for the night of course nv continue cause it is too dangerous to go near the range and fire. Luckily the warrant officer say no need to re-shoot again coz it is nt our fault.
Then for rest of the week got a lot of section training and so on.. we got to stay in the forest on wed night coz we got training on wed and thurs and it will be time wasting if we got back...
I got my first navigation exercise yesterday and it was tiring coz we got to topo in lower mandai and the vegetation there is real thick and dense...we got a 10 man team and 1 sergeant to assit us coz it is our first exercise...we are there to learn how to do it the real thing...coz the thing will be next wed and that time it will be a 7 man team and without a sergeant so it will of course be harder some more we need to carry a lot of things - 2 field pack with water and combat ration and also a heavy radio set that we need to communicate with the HQ...so the whole thing took a whole day...from point to point we change role navigating, some pacing and a few plotter..Navigating in mandai i can say is no easy task...even u got a map and a compass u will stil get lose coz everything inside there looks bloody the same...and somemore you need to bash through the vegetation...vines, trunks, thorny branches and trees everywhere..wadever insect also got..u name it u got it.However we mange to find all the checkpoints lah coz it is our requirement for the day..better still we got a night one that one is better then the day..coz in the night where navigation will be harder we got a nearer checkpoint from our starting location..it is ard 300 metres away...we found the checkpoint first and we alert other section to come to our spot coz they also finding the same spot but they start from diff location...
that's all for this week..more to come -)
