Singapore Arts Festivals 2007 Highlights

Sinfonia Eroica by Michèle Anne De Mey
Charleroi/ Danses
(Belgium)
Truly sophisticated, packed with verve, intelligent surprises and contemporary appeal, choreographer Michèle Anne De Mey is again making her mark in the European dance scene.
Formerly of Rosas (seen in last year’s Festival), Michèle Anne de Mey choreographs to Beethoven’s monumental third symphony, Sinfonia Eroica (the ‘heroic’). Nine charismatic dancers combine musical and choreographic phrases in an interplay of group and couple movements, hinting at relationships that never quite develop. Crossing, gliding, splashing, forming and splitting in alternating playful and serious moments, the result is ravishingly radiant and fluid.
Amidst the seduction, the concept of the ‘hero’, the ‘anti-hero’ and the moment of the ‘heroic act’ becomes a playful invitation to dance.
(Duration: 80mins no intermission)
