Revisiting Chinatown 07
Chinese New Year Lighting at Chinatown, today is the first day of the lighting till ard 7th of February. Lots and lots of people turn up for the it and also to shop for new year goodies and decorations for their homes and offices. The crowd was everywhere and it was very packed as i can see from one end of the street there. Many shops are selling more or less the same thing for examples: pottery, decorations, soveunir, memorabilia and new year pastries cookies.. Walk through most of the streets even though it is raining there are still many people walking around.
The rain did not dampen the spirits of the crowd and i am amaze by it. While waiting for dear at the Exit A of Chinatown MRT, i walk pass severals stalls near the MRT and happen to come across one stall that sell ancient and nicely hand-crafted teapots for collection and also for tea driking. Half of the shop is having 50% sale and some teapots are sold for just $10, it wad really cheap and it was the first time i came across such price. The teapot and the price of it looks tempting, so i thought of getting 1 for my mother, i got one that cost ard $20 for her and it took me quite a while to choose it out of the many other nice looking teapots out there in the display.
Went to look at the the opening ceromony of the celebration at the new bridge road, at both ends of the roads are blockade by fencing to prevent vehicles from entering. What i saw are cordorned areas of the chinatown shopping centers and pear center shopping center, lucky chinatown etc. The arrival of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spark lots of attention and commotion, he wore a purple chinese tradition costume to suit the event of course. Then after his opening speech, some other VIP and MPs also gave theirs and it took quite a while, after that followed off by lots of performance by various genre and theme. Everyone enjoy the brilliant and interesting performance by them even though there was a slight drizzle.
After after that went to look for dinner le coz we are both hungry and tired after looking at the performances after performance. Go around several streets and finally found what looks decent - The Singapore Heritage Restaurant which serves exotic and tradition food cook by a local celebrity chef call Melvin Low if i am not mistaken.
Ordered my fair and Dear's fair then plus some beverages, but no dessert leh sianz sia. After that we continued our shopping around chinatown, actually wan go for other desserts from some dessert shop but dear full le haha me too also...
